Process for the purification of waste water containing organic and optionally inorganic sulfur compounds

Purification of waste liquor containing mercaptobenzothiazole and optionally thiosulphate, benzothiazole, mercaptobenzimidazole and/or derivatives involves treatment with an extractant comprising (a) 1-60 wt.% 8-50C amine salts (I) and (b) aliphatic and/or aromatic hydrocarbons (II), both with a solubility≤10 ppm in water at (20 degrees C), using (I) in 1:10 to 10:1 molar ratio to all sulphur compounds.
