PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium having optical transparency to which an image forming means can be added on the opposite face, and to provide its producing method. SOLUTION: (1) In this medium, the transparent magnetic layer is formed to 0.5 to 3.0μm dry film thickness, and a lubricating layer having 3 to 200 nm dry film thickness is formed on the transparent magnetic layer. (2) By this method, the transparent magnetic layer is formed on one surface of a nonmagnetic supporting body which is continuously travelling. The lubricating layer is formed by using an extrusion-type coating head, and the amt. of an org. solvent included in the lubricating layer is controlled to 0.8 to 30 g/m<2> .
