PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To remove only large quantities of hydrogen gas in an accident with a minimum addition of equipment by housing an alloy for storing hydrogen gas in a hydrogen gas storage box, arranging it one over another within a reactor containment vessel, and removing hydrogen gas by the hydrogen gas storage alloy if hydrogen gas is generated in the vessel. SOLUTION: The hydrogen gas generated within a reactor containment vessel 3 in an accident forms an ascending flow near aγ-shield 2 and a descending flow near the inside wall of the vessel 3 by the circulating force of a reactor containment vessel spray. In a sever accident, the ascending flow and descending flow are formed in the same manner. A hydrogen gas storage box 8 is arranged in a position laid along this gas flow, whereby hydrogen gas can be preferentially introduced into the box 8. Thus, hydrogen atom is freely carried in the clearance 11 of a hydrogen gas storage alloy 9 and a clearance 12 of shelf 7 of a support structure 6, penetrated into the hydrogen gas storage alloy 9 through the clearance of the grid of the hydrogen gas storage alloy 9, and absorbed.
