PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reflection type liquid crystal display element which can limit reflected light within a desired angle range. SOLUTION: The reflection-side substrate 2 of the liquid crystal display element is constituted by laminating a prism sheet 14, a metal film 15, a light scattering layer 16, a transparent resin layer 17, a transparent electrode 12, and an orientation film 13 in this order. When light is made incident on the liquid crystal display element as shown by the arrow A in the figure, it is reflected by the metal film 15 provided on the surface of the prism sheet 14. The surface of the metal film 15 is made finely even in conformity with the pattern of the prism sheet 14, so the horizontal component of the reflected light is scattered and further scattered much by the light scattering layer 16. Through the scattering operation by the metal film 15 and light scattering layer 16, the reflected light is scattered up to the desired angle range without making the luminance uneven in a view zone. |
