Measure both liquid level and temperature with data from a single sensor sent to one electronic processor. The device is deigned to measure oil level and temperature using a thermal probe (4) with an electrically conducting part (6) immersed in the oil (3). The output signal of the probe is representative of the variation in resistance of the part (6). The electronic processor (14) is programmed to supply the sensitive part (6) of the probe (4) with a pre-determined current as soon as electrical contact is established. the output signal of the probe is processed either as a oil level signal or as an oil temperature signal when the engine is running.
