Winery effluents, consisting mainly of vessel washing effluents, are treated to reduce their organic matter content. The effluents are collected in a storage vessel (1) and recirculated (2) between this vessel and an oxygenation reactor (3). When the volume collected is high a second oxygenator (4) contained within the storage vessel may also be used to prevent the effluent becoming anaerobic. When the contents reach certain conditions the recirculation and oxygenation rates are reduced to prevent anoxic conditions developing, and liquid is gradually drawn off to purification vessels (5). After the liquid has been removed the sludge remaining in the storage vessel, is further treated and mineralised, forming an inert sludge. |
