A system and method for establishing prices for products on line and for allowing acquisition of those products from retailers that honor such prices. The system involves a customer having a credit card account, a computer terminal (102) configured to access a network, and a central authority (110) coupled to the computer terminal (102) via the network. The system also employs a credit card processor (124) for querying information maintained by the central authority and for receiving price information from the central authority.
