PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To conduct a test agent toxicity test through such a process that a substrate with cell-adhesive regions arranged thereon at specified intervals is placed in a culture fluid, cells subject to adhesion restraint due to the presence of a toxic component are cultured in the presence of a test agent, and the number of the resulting adhered cells are then counted. SOLUTION: A substrate with many cell-adhesive regions such as circular dotted patterns each 20-100 (pref. about 50)μm in size arranged at intervals of each 50-200 (pref. about 100)μm on the cell-nonadhesive surface thereof; in this state, cells adhesive to the above regions in the absence of a toxic component, while subject to adhesion restraint in the presence of the toxic component are cultured in the presence of a test agent. After ending the culture, the number of the cells adhered to the cell-adhesive regions is counted; based on the result, the toxicity of the test agent is judged, thus performing the aimed cytotoxicity test for the test agent.
