摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve a speeding up of the operation of detecting a visual axis without lowering the accuracy thereof by varying the number of optoelectrical transducers composing a block area according to an output of a distance information detection means which detects information pertaining to eye balls of a user, a visual axis detector and a distance. SOLUTION: In a visual axis detection circuit 101, an output of an eye ball image from an image sensor 14 is transmitted to a CPU 100. The CPU 100 performs an A/D conversion of the eye ball image signal to extract feature points of the eye ball image necessary for the detection of a visual axis according to a specified algorithm, further calculates the angle of rotation of the eye balls of a person to be taken from the positions of the feature points and also detects the brightness of the surrounding area by an output of the image sensor 14. An IRED drive circuit 107 works to light IRED-0-7 illuminating the eye balls of the person to be taken by infrared rays. At this point, information pertaining to the eye balls of the user, a visual axis detector and a distance is detected to vary the number of electrooptical transducers composing one block area of the image sensor 14 according to information on the distance.
