A weed burner, using a vaporised liquid fuel such as propane or butane, has a fuel feed system (1, 2) and a flame former (4) with an injector and a fuel/air mixer (3). The flame former has a combustion chamber (4) which is fed by the mixer (3) and bounded by an outer wall (4a) and having an open outlet end (4e) for the flame. The combustion chamber is surrounded by a fuel vaporising chamber (5) formed by a second inner wall (4b) which covers at least part of the height of the outer wall and is connected by tubes (6, 7) and a coupling (1) to the fuel feeder and flame former. The combustion chamber also contains a transverse metal re-ignition bar.
