The amplifier includes an amplifying module (A) and a gain control circuit. An input signal (Vet) is applied to a directional coupler (1) with two outputs. One output is connected via an attenuator to the amplifying module. The second output is connected to a level detector (4) and an a/d converter (6). A clock signal with fixed frequency (H) controls the converter. The output signal delivered by the amplifying module is applied to a directional coupler (3). The attenuator is controlled by a logical circuit (L) and the clock signal.
