PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic optical element which can record, read-out(reproduce the record) and erase the record by a magnetic head, also serviceable as a polarizer, and is applicable as a display, etc., that makes a picture image visible. SOLUTION: In a magnetic optical element, a plurality of 5-100 nm wide and 0.1-5 μm high ferromagnetic thin films 4 are formed linearly and in parallel with one another at equal intervals of 0.2-2 μm. on a transparent substrate 1 to visible light. In such a constitution, the ferromagnetic thin films 4 are formed on the sidewall surface of recessed trenches 3 on the substrate 1. |
