The headrest has a support tube extending into a guide tube in the backrest. The support tube has a stop spring (4) with side projections extending into spaced recesses in the guide tube to hold the head rest at set vertical positions. The stop spring can be a leaf spring with one end (4b) mounted in the guide tube and the other end (4a) having the stop projections. The leaf spring, in its locking position is adjustable in the support tube against the force of a locking spring (7) actuated lock body (6).
