Modular instrument for bus system

The modular instrument includes an application-independent part, the coupling interface (1), and at least one application-specific part, the application module (2). The application module is equipped with an identification circuit (3) which comprises a non-volatile, readable memory device and input and/or output devices. The identification circuit is arranged to exchange information and also an identification code with the coupling interface over a respective transmission path. The modular instrument is formed as a subscriber station of a bus system, with bus coupling arrangement, application module, and an identification for application-specific circumstances.
