PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new polynucleotide for prevention, treatment, etc., of osteoporosis, arthritis, cancer, tumor metastasis, Paget's disease, etc., having high identity to a base sequence encoding rat cathepsin K polypeptide having a specific amino acid sequence. SOLUTION: This new isolated polynucleotide has a nucleotide sequence having at least 90% identity over the whole length to a nucleotide sequence encoding a polypeptide of rat cathepsin K having an amino acid sequence represented by the formula or a nucleotide sequence complementary to the nucleotide sequence and the polynucleotide and a polypeptide are useful for prevention, treatment, etc., of osteoporosis, periodontal diseases, arthritis, cancer, tumor metastasis, Paget's disease, etc. The polynucleotide is obtained from cDNA library derived from mRNA in a cell of rat bone (spine) by using standard cloning and screening and using expressed sequence tag analysis. |
