PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a stable photoreceptor having a structure having a specified X-ray peak strength, a high charge potential and high sensitivity by dispersing amorphous titanyloxy phthalocyanine together with water and a halogenated solvent, adding an organic solvent containing a specified amount of water to the dispersion and using the resultant dispersion. SOLUTION: The photoreceptor is made directly from a dispersion obtained by crystal transition without isolating amorphous titanyloxy phthalocyanine as a solid. In an X-ray diffraction spectrum of the titanyloxy phthalocyanine, it shows the main peak at a Brag angle (2θ±0.2 deg.) of 27.4 deg. to X-rays of CuKαat 1.54Åand has a ratio of the intensity of the other peak to that of the peak at 27.4 deg. of 0.2 or below. 0.001-10 pts.wt. water is added to 1 pt.wt. this compound to prepare a dispersion.
