900,598. Two-part couplings. ELASTIC STOP NUT CORPORATION OF AMERICA. Nov. 12, 1959 [Nov. 17, 1958], No. 38383/59. Class 38 (1). A releasable, watertight connector comprises pin-and-socket contacts 26, 28 located in resilient, insulating casings 30, 32 by restricted portions of the casings which snap into annular grooves 62,68 in the contacts defined by pairs of conical shoulders 54, 56 respectively. Prior to insertion into the casings of the contacts with their attached cables 16, 22, a predetermined amount of flowable insulating compound 144, which may be hardening or non-hardening, is inserted into the casings and is compressed to fill the space between the casings and contacts by the act of insertion, excess material being squeezed out along keyways 98, 140 in the casings. To facilitate ins ertion of the socket contact through the compound, it is fitted with a dummy pin which is subsequently discarded. The forward end of casing 30 has a projection 100 which interfits with casing 32 to form a seal and the rearward ends of the casings are a tight fit round the cable sheaths. |
