The multi-storey carpark is served by a central unit on which unmanned vehicles are pre-positioned on booms (6) and raised vertically to a given level. The vehicle is then deposited by the extended booms (6) onto an empty platform (E). The platforms (E) rest on a helical rail arrangement (4) on which the unit moves. The support structure (5) of the unit is formed by the component parts of the unit.
