The gas generator incorporates a combustion chamber (3) containing a charge (3a) for production of hot gases, and a fluid container with a fluid (17) located outside the combustion chamber. The container is burstable by means of pressure to free the fluid. It is located in the interior (14) of a sleeve (11) in the flow path of the hot gases. A baffle (9) directs the freed fluid via a gap (12) and through a bore (13) onto the outer surface of the sleeve to produce a fluid film.
