A restriction (74) in a restricted vessel (80) lying closely proximate the heart (20) is bypassed. An aperture is formed in a supply vessel (62) suitable for providing a blood supply. An aperture is formed in the restricted vessel (80) distal of the restriction (74). Heart tissue is removed from the surface of the heart (20) to form a channel (93) in the heart tissue between the aperture in the supply vessel (62) and the aperture in the restricted vessel (80) distal of the restriction (74). The channel (93) is covered to form a conduit to conduct blood from the supply vessel (62) to the restricted vessel (80) distal of the restriction (74).
