Disclosed herein is a can-covering polyester film (1) which is bonded under heat to a metal surface of a can (43, 61, 81) through a thermosetting resin adhesive (5) to form a protective coat, wherein an adhesive layer formed of a resin comprising an epoxy resin having a number of average molecular weight of 5,000-20,000 and an acid anhydride hardener at a weight ratio of 70/30 to 99/1 or an adhesive layer formed of a resin comprising a polyester resin and an aminoplast resin at a weight ratio of 70/30 to 90/10 is provided on one side of an polyester film (2). A process for the production of the can-covering polyester film (1) is also disclosed.
