A navigation device for route guidance when driving a vehicle along a pre-set route on the basis of previously input data relating to predetermined points along a desired route and detected data relating to a current point, comprises a main part to be mounted on the vehicle, said main part comprising means for registering said previously input data including for each predetermined point along the route the latitude and longitude, means for receiving said detected data including data representing the current position, means for determining on the basis of previously input data of the next predetermined point and the detected data the distance and direction to a next point on the route, and a screen for displaying said distance and direction. Moreover, a navigation method is proposed. As size and weight of the navigation device can be reduced and its constitution be simplified, it is particularly suited for use with motorcycles. <IMAGE>
