PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a virtual data base space system having logically involatile and wide virtual data base space. SOLUTION: An auxiliary storage device larger than virtual storage space 4 in an OS is prepared as a staging drive 3 for virtual data base space 5, and when a page to be processed does not exist in the space 4, the page is read out from the drive 3 to a free page in the space 4. When the system is started, the system is automatically recovered to a state held at the time of a preceding end, so that a user supposes as if the logically non-volatile virtual data base space 5 is provided by the same capacity as the drive 3. In addition, the contents of the drive 3 can be backed up to a backup drive 9 while updating a data base.
