The breathing aid consists of a half mask (2) which goes over the patient's mouth and nose and is connected to a control apparatus (9) which analyses the exhaled air and adjusts the input air accordingly. It also has an outer mask (1) which covers the whole of the face and has a peripheral rim forming a seal with the face. The outer mask has an eyepiece (3) and straps (7) for fastening it to the patient's head, and an air inlet (10) with a connector (10') for linking the mask to the controller. The inner half-mask (2) is fixed inside the outer mask, is made from a more supple material and has a lower part to receive the chin, a central part to cover the mouth, and an upper part (2c) for the nose. The upper part has one-way air inlets on either side of the nose, and inner seals for the nostrils.
