PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To maintain a character line by estimating an outline of pixels constituting character edges in a multi-gradation image. SOLUTION: The device is provided with a sample window setting means 1 that samples part of an original image, an edge configuration pixel discrimination means 2 that discriminates whether or not a middle pixel of the sample window configures an outline edge, and a density storage means 3 that stores density information in the sample window. An outline border density estimate means 4 uses the density information to estimate a border density, and an outline estimate means 5 estimates an outline position in the middle pixel of the sample window. Then an outline pixel paint means 6 paints the middle pixel of the sample window and its surrounding pixels based on a border lien resulting from the estimated outline. Through the constitution above, the outline estimation device is realized, by which a character line is properly processed. |
