PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable the display time of a message on-screen displayed on a personal computer display to be appropriately updated and to simplify the update operation. SOLUTION: When a 'high volume' key and a 'low volume' key of an infrared ray remote control transmitter are simultaneously pressed and operated, a code for the display time set is transmitted, a microcomputer 27 of a television tuner 2 that receives this code enters into a message display time set mode, a display of a personal computer on-screen displays changed time at the same time in accordance with a change operation of the message display set time of the infrared ray remote control transmitter, and by a simultaneous operation of the 'high volume' key and the 'low volume' key again, the message display set time after change is displayed on a timer 5 contained in the television tuner. A message transmitted from the infrared ray remote control transmitter is displayed for the period of this message display set time.
