A nonwoven fabric of long fibers, comprising thermoplastic fibers of a fineness of 0.1-10 d/f and having thermocompression bonded portions of a weight per unit area of 5-35 g/m<2>, wherein the nonwoven fabric satisfies the conditions of (A) an area ratio of the thermocompression bonded portions is 5-25 %, (B) X </= 2.0 (mm), wherein X is an average value of distances among the thermocompression bonded portions adjacent to one another in the operating direction of a nonwoven fabric manufacturing machine; and Y </= 2.5 (mm), wherein Y is an average value of distances among the thermocompression bonded portions adjacent to one another in the direction perpendicular to the operating direction of the nonwoven fabric manufacturing machine, and (C) an average value of maximum diameter ratios of the thermocompression bonded portions is 1 </= y/x </= 15, wherein x is an average value of maximum diameters in the operating direction of the nonwoven fabric manufacturing machine of the thermocompression bonded portions, and y an average value of maximum diameters in the direction perpendicular to the operating direction of the nonwoven fabric manufacturing machine of the thermocompression bonded portions. This invention can provide a nonwoven fabric of long fibers excellent in the strength characteristics, feeling characteristics and abrasion resistance, and absorbent articles made of the same. They can be used for various purposes, i.e., for the production of clothes, industrial materials, civil engineering and construction materials, agricultural and gardening materials, daily commodities, and medical and sanitary materials. |
