Glass fibre core eccentricity evaluation method

The eccentricity evaluation method has the ends of a measured glass fibre (F2) and a reference glass fibre (F1) brought into abutting alignment, with measurement of the relative offset between their centre points (M1,M2) when their cores (FK1,FK2) are in precise alignment. The offset is measured in at least one angular position of the abutting optical fibres relative to the longitudinal axis of the aligned cores, via an external contour measurement. The precise alignment of the optical fibre cores is indicated when the light transmission between the optical fibres reaches a maximum.
