The self-defence weapon is about the size of a cigarette packet, with a cord or chain loop for placing round the wrist. It consists of a casing containing a container of compressed gas - possibly air - sufficient to fire several cartridges accurately up to eight meters. The cartridges can contain various substances, e.g. a reactive dye which cannot be washed out for at least five days, possibly mixed with cayenne pepper to render an attacker - including an attacking animal - incapable for some seconds. For practice cartridges, the filling may be of powdered chalk. The safety catch (A) can be brought to the firing position, in which a rail (B) closes the firing channel.
