A pointed tip is formed in the narrow part of the web using a fork-shaped cutting tool (9) which is rotated towards or past a fixed bearing (11) in order to make a cross-direction incision. A method for threading a tail of a web through process machinery in order to ensure transfer of the web from one processing step to another, involves making a length direction incision to divide the web into a wide part and a narrow part. The fork-shaped cutting tool is introduced into a position enclosing the narrow part and is then rotated towards or past a fixed bearing, so that a cross-direction incision is made to form a pointed tip in the narrow part of the web. The tip is then transferred to a tail transporting device in the second processing step. An Independent claim is also included for the web tail forming device. |
