The invention comprises the compound of formula: and its preparation by reacting 3-(a , a , a -trifluoro-m-tolyloxy)-1, with (1) an excess of diethyl carbonate and treating the reaction product with ammonia or with (2) an approximately equimolar quantity of phosgene in the presence of an organic solvent, adding an acid acceptor and reacting the intermediate product with ammonia or with (3) a phenyl haloformate and reacting the 3-(a , a , a -trifluoro-m-tolyloxy) -2- hydroxy-propyl phenyl carbonate with ammonia or with (4) carbamyl chloride at-5 DEG C. to 5 DEG C. in the presence of an acid acceptor or with (5) sodium cyanate and hydrogen chloride or with (6) an alkyl (1-4C) carbamate in the presence of aluminium isopropoxide or with (7) diethyl carbonate in the presence of a catalyst to produce a cyclic carbonate and monoester and treating the product with ammonia or (8) reacting a 3-halo-1,2-propanediol with phosgene in the presence of an acid acceptor and reacting the intermediate product with ammonia to produce a 3-halo-2-hydroxy-propyl carbamate and reacting this with an alkali metal a , a , a -trifluoro-m-cresoxide.
