<p>A safety monitoring apparatus (2) for monitoring the safe operation of a crane (4, 8, 10) or other lifting device. The safety monitoring apparatus includes a number of sensors (16, 18) for measuring input parameters (36, 38, 40) such as the load (14) supported by the lifting device and the angle of heel of the base of the lifting device caused by the lifting operation, in conjunction with a processor (20) for comparing the input parameters with pre-ordained maximum safe values and a number of devices for providing output signals (42, 44, 60) to an operator of the lifting device, for indicating the safe operation of the lifting device to the operator.</p> |
