<p>A method for purifying titanium by reacting crude titanium as a starting material with TiC14 to prepare purified titamium, comprising: (a) step 1 of reacting crude titanium as a starting material with TiC14 to produce vapor of lower titanium chloride TiC1x; (b) step 2 of precipitating a solid TiC1x from the vapor of TiC1x evolved in the step 1; and (c) step 3 of heat-decomposing the solid TiC1x to prepare purified titanium, wherein TiC1x is lower titanium chloride with x being 2 or 3. The temperature t1 ( DEG C) and the pressure pl (Torr) at which the step 1 is carried out are 750 DEG C </= tl and log(p1) < 20.158-(21859/(t1+273)), respectively. The pressure (p2) and the temperature (t2) at which the step 2 is carried out are 0.001 Torr < p2 < 1520 Torr and 150 DEG C < t2 < (21859/(20.158 - log(p2)) - 273 DEG C, respectively. The temperature t3 ( DEG C) and the pressure p3 (Torr) at which the step 3 is carried out are 750 DEG C </= t3 and log(p3) < 20.158-(21859/(t3+273)), respectively.</p> |
