PRODUCTION OF PLASTIC OPTICAL FIBER PREFORM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for producing a plastic optical fiber preform capable of manufacturing the plastic optical fiber preform of a columnar shape suppressed in the unequalness in the outside diameter in a longitudinal direction and reducing a cost. SOLUTION: This process consists in producing the plastic optical fiber preform by collapsing the plastic optical fiber preform of a hollow cylindrical body 1, thereby forming the plastic optical fiber preform of the columnar shape which is made solid. Gas for collapsing having the temp. to allow the softening of the cylindrical body 1 is delivered from a gas delivery port 6a of a gas generating means. While this gas for collapsing is blown over the entire circumference of the cylindrical body 1, the gas is successively blown along the longitudinal direction of the cylindrical body 1, by which the cylindrical body 1 is collapsed.
