The heavy apparatus has a motor, two pumps driven by it and two positioning drives, each driven by one pump. First, it is ascertained if the motor is switched to the fine operating mode or not. Then mixing of the fluid delivered into the first drive and the fluid delivered into the second drive is prevented at the same time at which either the first or second drive works during the operation of the motor in the fine operating mode. In a further step, the pressure of one of the fluids is increased during the operation of the motor in the fine operating mode.
