Fibre and other products made from plastics mixed with the mineral elvan

Fibrous products are claimed which are obtained by mixing and melting together elvan powder and a plastics material, the elvan being a naturally-occurring mineral consisting of aluminium silicates (feldspars) of composition KAlSi3O8, NaAlSi3O8, CaAl2Si2O8, MgAl2Si2O8 etc and the plastics material including polyesters and acrylics. Preferably also present is an antibiotic agent, especially Ag ions. Use of the elvan is claimed as an additive in the production of organic polymer fibres, the elvan being added as particles of size 10 mu or below and in amount of up to 10 wt.% to the polymer.
