The invention relates to xanthine derivatives of the general formula (I) whereof particular substituents' meanings are stated in the Claims, process for the preparation thereof and the use thereof as pharmaceuticals. The said pharmaceuticals containing these derivatives are useful for the treatment of diseases caused by the excess of adenosine, especially degenerative brain diseases.
