摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a high-purity nickel oxyhydroxide not containing impurity by reacting nickel hydroxide whose cobalt content is smaller than a specified value with ozone or/and oxygen in an alkali solution. SOLUTION: Nickel hydroxide having <90 mol.% (Co/(Ni+Co)} cobalt content is reacted with ozone or/and oxygen in an alkali solution. A mixed gas containing 10% ozone obtained by ozone generator due to silent discharge is introduced into the solution at a flow rate of 0.5 dm/min for 3 hr while stirring 2L of 4.5M sodium hydroxide aqueous solution in which 100 g nickel hydroxide powder having 5-50 &mu;m size is dispersed and the reaction product is washed with hot water and dried at 80 deg.C for 2 hr to provide the objective material. A battery excellent in discharge volume and discharge and charge cycle characteristics is obtained in the nonaqueous electrolytic battery using an anode substance using the resultant high-purity nickel oxyhydroxide as a raw material or an anode substance using the resultant nickel oxyhydroxide as a raw material.
