PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a compsn. which is based on a natural substance having an excellent antioxidant power, has no problem with safety, and is useful as an antioxidant or as an external preparation for skin by using an extract of a plant of the genus Dillenia of the family Dilleniaceae as the acting component. SOLUTION: Plants of the genus Dillenia of the family Dilleniaceae include Dillenia indica, Dillenia obata, etc., among which Dillenia indica is esp. pref. Both the raw and dried plants of the genus Dillenia can be used; however, the use of a dried powder or a solvent extract is pref. in terms of usability, preparation of pharmaceuticals, etc. The use of the fruits of Dillenia indica is pref. in the solvent extraction, though other parts can be used. The extract is obtd. e.g. by immersing the plant in an extractant or heating the plant together with an extractant under reflux, separating the plant from the extractant contg. the extract by filtration, and concentrating the extract. |
