Bridge crane for loading and unloading containers from ships

The wheeled part (1) of the crane is placed on the quay with a gantry (2) protruding out over the vessel. The vertical frame (3) of the crane is tied by profile beams (4) to diagonal supports (5) and cross beams (6) and the upper structure (7) has anchor points for cables (8) which support the outer end of the gantry. Human access stairs (9, 10) are linked by a catwalk (12). The travelling hoist (13) and the gripping assembly (21) are linked by a continuous chain or cable (23), which prevents the load from swinging backwards and forwards as the hoist travels along the gantry.
