The invention refers to a variety of cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.) called "Select" which is obtained by genealogical selection with the participation of the 3 GA and 81 K 201 lines, and is recommended for cultivation in all favourable areas in the country, for fresh consumption and industrialisation. The plants of this variety are characterised by a high level of sturdiness, highly dense foliage with a darker green colour than the reference variety. The fruit is cylindrical, rounded at the pistil end, has no neck, is 12-15 cm long, has a diameter of 3-5 cm and a beaded surface with white thorns, which can sometimes be ribbed. In cross section, the fruit has a round or, sometimes, rounded triangular shape. The fruit is dark green with white-yellowish longitudinal stripes when it reaches technical maturity, and greenish white with whitish stripes on its whole surface when it reaches physiological maturity. The fruit is firm and crunchy, and has no holes or bitter taste. This variety displays high tolerance to the main pathogenic agents: the Pseudomonas syringae pv. lachrymans bacteria, which causes angular spotting of the cucumber leaves, and the Pseudoperonospora cubensis fungus, which causes cucumber peronosporosis. It is a semi-late variety with a vegetation period of 52-54 days. This variety gives a stable production of 35-40 t/hectare.
