There are proposed a process and an apparatus for the production of a honeycomb body having a plurality of at least partially structured sheets (3,4) forming a plurality of passages (2) through which a fluid can pass, wherein plastic deformation is effected in respect of at least a part of the sheets (3,4) in the region of a bar passage (9) whose cross-section is substantially determined by a bar of a winding device. The free flow cross-section at least of the bar passage (9) is closed at least in a portion in the direction of flow of an exhaust gas by means of a deformation punch (6) which has an end portion (7) with a sharp-edged rim (8). The honeycomb body may be used in catalytic converters for vehicle exhausts. |
