PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device to remarkably reduce the generation of hydrocarbon and carbon monoxide in combustion exhaust gas by reforming intake air of an internal combustion engine through simple constitution. SOLUTION: An exhaust emission control system comprises an intake system consisting of an air cleaner 2, an intake pipe 3, a throttle body 5, and an intake manifold 6; a combustion chamber 8 consisting of a cylinder 20 and a cylinder head 21; and an irradiating body 22 is mounted on at least a part of a part of which an intake air passage consists and formed of a material containing radioactive isotope, especially aαcollapsible radioactive isotope. By irradiating air, sucked in the combustion chamber 8, with radiation, intake air is reformed, and by improving combustion efficiency, exhaust gas, especially hydrocarbon and carbon monoxide, are reduced.
