PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To impart a desired rheological characteristic to an aq. solvent forming a matrix even by the addition in a small amt. by interposing a dispersion stabilizer between the layers of swelling mica having a specified thickness. SOLUTION: A swelling mica having 0.1-6.0 mm diameter and <=500Åaverage thickness is swollen by <=30 wt.% in >=1 kind of dispersion medium selected from water, a polar solvent compatible with water in an optional ratio and a mixture of the water and the polar solvent to obtain a dispersion. A soln. of >=1 kind of dispersion stabilizer selected from a compd. having a polysiloxane chain as the principal chain and a compd. with a polyether chain as the principal chain is added to the dispersion and sufficiently mixed, then the dispersion medium is removed, and a swelling mica intercalation compd. with 0.1-60 pts.wt., preferably 0.2-50 pts.wt. or more preferably 0.3-40 pts.wt., of the dispersion stabilizer soluble in aq. solvent interposed between the layers of 100 pts.wt. of the swelling mica is obtained.
