PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily measure the temperature when optical fibers are welded. SOLUTION: When an optical fiber ribbon is welded with an electric arc generated between electrodes 7, an area heated with the electric arc is mapped on CCD elements in a camera 17. Relating to the image which is thus obtained, the light intensity of a part in an image corresponding to a heated fiber part is determined. This light intensity is used to set a current flowing between the electrodes 7 so that while desired welding temperature is obtained and a time is long, temperature lower than desired is obtained at a fiber end part by a preliminary softening means which is implemented before a welding stage. |
