The display device has a light conducting panel (18) which has a front side and a back side. A light source (24) illuminates the back side of the panel (18). The front side presents an at least partly light transparent information carrier (12). The display device has several light output zones (20,22). The degree of light output of the light output zones (20,22) increases with their distance from the light source (24).Preferably the light output zones (20,22) have the form of recesses whose depth increases with increasing distance from the light source (24). A diffusor disk (14) may be provided between the light conducting panel and the information carrier.
