The apparatus is used to generate and eject or discharge small drops of a fluid. The apparatus has a pressure chamber (12) with at least one inlet (14) for the fluid and an outlet (40) for outputting a drop of fluid. The apparatus also has a pressure pulse generator (44) to generate a pressure pulse in the pressure chamber (12) to eject a drop of fluid from the outlet (40) of the chamber (12). The pressure chamber (12) has at least one inlet (26) for a rinsing fluid for rinsing the pressure chamber (12). The rinsing fluid is brought into the chamber (12) through the inlet (26) and is discharged from the chamber (12) through the outlet (40).
