PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for reducing the concentrations of silver and thiosulfate in a washing solution in photographic processing. SOLUTION: This processing method contains a developing process for a silver halide photographic material, a fixing process and a washing process. The fixing process is executed with a fixing solution containing thiosulfate to treat the silver halide photographic material. At this time the washing process is executed by washing the photographic material with an aqueous washing solution containing an oxidant capable of reacting with the thiosulfate ion. In this case, the oxidant is made to present in a sufficient amount for precipitating all the silver contained in the aqueous washing solution.
