PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve operability for the specification of a line drawing. SOLUTION: In the case of specifying a prescribed area on an image displayed on a display device, an exclusive cursor CS is used. The image expresses a line drawing indicating an original having a register for printing. The cursor CS consists of a cross C1 and a rectangular frame C2 and the relative positions of both the cross C1 and frame C2 and the size of the frame C2 are determined at prescribed values based on inputted data. The cursor CS is used by matching the intersect P0 of the cross C1 of the segmention-only cursor CS with a left center register Ta and clicking the matched position. Consequently the positional information of an area determined by the frame C2 can be obtained.
