PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a DNA fragment containing a new phenolase gene useful for high-concentration phenol-containing contaminant treatment, etc., by deriving the DNA fragment from Rhizobiacea sp. 501 strains and providing the fragment with a restriction enzyme map. SOLUTION: This DNA fragment is derived from Rhizobiacea sp. 501 strains (FERM P-11778) and has about 6k6 size and has a restriction map represented by formula I. Furthermore, a recombinant containing a recombinant vector in which DNA fragment containing the phenolase gene is integrated is cultured in a medium and a phenolase is collected from the medium to provide the phenolase. The DNA fragment containing the phenolase gene preferably codes for a protein comprising an amino acid sequence of formula II or a protein comprising amino acids in which one or several amino acids are lost or substituted or added in the amino acid sequence of formula II and having phenolase activity. |
